The auctions during Monterey Car Week, which happen in August of every year (except for 2020… but we won’t talk about that), are known to set high-sale records and gauge the health of the market overall. With 2022 already being an incredibly hot year for the classic and exotic car market, the auctions this week are sure to create headlines.

To help you get the most of the next few days, we’ve analyzed all of the over 1,000 listings crossing the block across all of this year’s Monterey auctions, and curated them into Markets*. Shown here are the hottest markets as ranked by growth in CMB** since August 2021. A high increase in CMB year-over-year (YoY) shows that the Market is HOT, while a negative growth shows a market where deals are likely to be found.

Tips on using this chart:

  • Search by Make or Model to filter the list
  • Use the Page # in the upper-right to go to the next page
  • Click on the Market title to view the listings for sale, and recent sales comps

Note: CMB is a Benchmark for the Market, not an estimate for a particular listing.

About this data

*On CLASSIC.COM, we curate every listing into their appropriate Market. A Market is a grouping of comparable vehicles that have, at a minimum, the same Make, Model, and Model Generation. When relevant for purposes of valuation, a Market may be further segmented by Model Variant, Trim, Transmission Type, Body Style, and other factors. Once a market is fully segmented, we apply a CMB* to each sub-market. Some Markets are not yet fully segmented, and will not yet be included in these charts. Are you looking for a particular Market? Search our Markets here.

**The CLASSIC.COM Market Benchmark (CMB), is a benchmark value for vehicles in a given Market based on data accumulated by CLASSIC.COM and calculated by a proprietary algorithm that takes into account volume and recency of each data point. CMB can be used to assess the performance of a market over a given time period. However, it does not represent the value of a specific vehicle.
